Animation and Games Design - BTEC Level 3 Diploma

 This course will allow you the opportunity to realise your creativity in the exciting world of Games Design and Animation. You will be able to explore your creative potential in a hands on environment using the powerful Apple Suite and using a range of dynamic software applications.

From Pen and Paper to Mouse and Screen you will be designing and creating 3D models and environments, animating your own characters and navigating through your own interactive worlds.

You will be able to create cutting edge digital illustrations to make exciting concept art and engaging graphic narratives. The course will allow you to tackle motion graphics and video effects. Also boost your web skills developing interactive applications and online games.

What's covered?

This full time, two year course is perfect if you want to work in games design or animation.. Animation covers a wide range of creative areasas an integral part of the games, film, TV and VFX industries. It is a global business with companies working together on projects for people across the world. You will normally study for up to four days a week including compulsory work experience to give you the employability skills needed to work in the games, animation and design industry. The programme of study includes animation and design, English, maths, work experience, enterprise and entrepreneurial concepts and problem solving. How is it assessed?

The course contains a number of mandatory and specialist units. You will be assessed continually throughout the year as you complete each task within a unit of study. Tasks vary and include practical work, underpinned by written work and discussions..

Course content

You will work in our amazing new multimedia suites, gaining experience in storyboarding, stop motion techniques, games engine designing, programming and 3D modelling. We believe that students need to be engaged in every aspect of this subject and foster imaginative skills to feed back to their design work – and we also want the course to be fun! The course is taught by animation and games design lecturers.

Future opportunities

You could progress on to a 2 year Foundation Degree or 3 year BA Hons Degree course in an appropriate subject. Employment opportunities in Games Design and Animation include: Concept Artist , Games Designer, Games Animator, Web Design, Flash Animator, Interactive Designer, 3D Modeling, 3D Environment Designer, Interface designer, Video compositor (special effects), 2D Animator and Graphic Designer.

You will also participate in structured drawing development, research and analytical aspects of the course as well as receiving regular tutorials to support your work.
