Enrichment and Extended Provision

There will be a comprehensive programme of careers guidance, personal wellbeing and finance to support all learners. GCSE English and Mathematics re-sits and Literacy and Numeracy qualifications will be compulsory for all students who have not already achieved Level 2. In addition, there will be a range of wider enrichment activities available for all Post 16 students, including a weekly two hour entitlement to physical education at the phenomenal Olympic standard University of Bath campus. Please encourage your son/daughter to take part in these physical activities as it is proven to aid their studies.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in community volunteering projects. Based on our successful models, students will engage in themed projects covering a wide range of subjects including social enterprise, starting a small business, how businesses work, financial capability and economics, all of which complement level 2 and 3 qualifications such as GCSE, BTEC and A levels.

In addition, students will also be able access additional enrichment experiences such as  Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Community Service and other accreditations linked to the arts and sports. We will ensure we bring in industry links, university lecturers to stimulate ideas and aspirations for our learners. We have formal relationships with local creative industries partners such as Somer Valley FM (radio station), Music Workshop (studios, rehearsal rooms and live function bands), Creative Bath (hub for all the creative industries in Bath).

All of our students will therefore have the opportunity to develop the key ‘Soft’ skills required to be successful in the world of work or university. We encourage our students to think about starting their own businesses while at school for example on social media. Examples of students we have doing this include photographers, musicians, bloggers, YouTubers, Instagram and Twitter accounts etc. We expect our sixth form students to maximise their spare time in-between lessons and to create/run their businesses. We encourage all of our students to have professional social media profiles that are acceptable in the workplace. The creative industries and many other businesses use social media as part of their business strategy and at Bath Studio School we aim to prepare the creative professional for the modern 21st century world of technology and web based communications by having professional and safe usage of social media.
